DAAD University Summer Courses Scholarships For International Students in Germany

The DAAD Summer Courses is a great opportunity for students who want to improve their German language abilities and immerse themselves in culture. This initiative, which is aimed at foreign students and graduates, will focus on improving knowledge of German through various themes, such as general, technical and regional studies.

Criteria of Eligibility for Applicants

All disciplines are eligible to apply. The following criteria must be met to qualify for the scholarship.

  • Undergraduate students must have completed at least 2 academic years before the start of scholarship period.
  • Graduate students: This program is open to all academic disciplines.

The Scholarships Cover

The scholarship allows students to attend a variety of German universities and language schools, where they will immerse themselves in language and region studies. The courses are conducted exclusively in German, and cover a wide range of topics.

  • General language skills
  • Regional Studies
  • Technical Language

The courses are typically offered from July to September 2025 and last a minimum 18 days of teaching . Each week, the course is taught for approximately 25 hours.

Financial Assistance and Benefits

The scholarship recipients receive substantial financial assistance, including:

  • Most students will receive a one time scholarship payment in the amount of EUR1,192; students from “Least Developed Countries” will receive EUR1,367.
  • Certain countries are eligible for a travel allowance.
  • Health, accident and liability insurance.

The scholarship funds are usually not sent directly to the recipient. Instead, they are deducted for the course fees and the accommodation costs. The course provider will then provide the remaining balance to the recipient.

The DAAD Selection Committee will assess applications based on a number of factors, including

Language Requirements

To participate in group discussions and lectures, applicants must have German language proficiency of B1 or higher. Acceptable language proficiency certificates include:

  • TestDaF
  • Goethe Institut Zertifikat
  • DSD
  • DSH
  • Other recognized language qualifications

The application period opens on September 15, 2024 and closes on December 1, 2024. The following documents must be submitted through the portal by applicants:

  • CV written in German
  • Motivational Letter
  • Transcripts of academic for the last two years
  • Language Certificates
  • You may also need to provide additional documents such as certificates of internshipemployment certificates
