The Faculty of Law at McGill University is accepting applications for its 2025 O’Brien Graduation Fellowships. The fellowships were established in 2005 by a generous gift from David O’Brien. They are awarded to outstanding Master’s and Doctoral Students who have devoted their research to the study of human rights and legal plurality.
McGill’s graduate programs in law are known as being the most comprehensive and diverse in Canada. They offer a variety of specializations and legal traditions. Students can study civil law and common law while exploring areas like international law and environmental law. They can also explore human rights, comparative law and air and space laws.
O’Brien fellows are part of McGill’s Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism. This dynamic research centre is dedicated to exploring important issues in human rights and pluralism. LLM Fellows can receive up to $25,000. DCL Fellows get $35,000 per year.
Criteria for Eligibility and the Application Process
For the O’Brien Graduate Fellowships to be awarded, candidates must have a strong academic record as well as a research proposal that is well developed in the area of human rights and pluralism. This is a fellowship for new students, so those already enrolled in McGill’s LLM or DCL program are not eligible.
Application Deadline
The deadline to apply for the fellowship is 1 January 2025. By the same deadline, applicants must submit their applications for admission to McGill’s graduate law program.
