The New York City Urban Fellows Program is sponsored by the City of New York, and administered by DCAS. It is a competitive and prestigious fellowship that aims to introduce participants to the intricate workings of New York’s public sector. In the course of nine months, fellows tackle key urban issues and collaborate with leaders in the public sector. They will also participate in educational seminars to improve their understanding of government and public policy.

The Urban Fellows Program offers

Hands-On experience in city agencies

Urban Fellows Program participants are placed in city agencies including mayor’s offices. This allows them to interact directly with the real world of governance. Fellows will tackle some of New York City’s most pressing problems through hands-on projects. Prior placements included work in housing policy, education and economic development. The practical experience gives fellows valuable insight into the workings and complexities of urban policies.

Seminars on Education and Networking

A seminar series is also part of the program, which gives fellows the opportunity to learn from both public and private sector leaders. Fellows learn about current urban issues, leadership strategies, and policy through guest lectures, panel discussion, and networking events. Through these interactions, fellows not only gain a better understanding of urban policy issues and leadership strategies but also make valuable connections for their future careers.
